I have over 50 years of love stories accrued from working 5 decades as a couple and family therapist. They emerge spontaneously when I draw a life model. I never know whether the poem is a response to the model, what happened in my life that week or from deep in my memory of love stories. Probably all three and more I don’t recognise.
Every love story has three phases that form a circle: harmony, disharmony and repair. These poems touch on each sometimes from a moment and others over a lifetime. Disillusionment brings the darkest of omens, demanding the widest reach into our shared humanity.
I have published a novel (Dream Life of Debris 2nd Edition 2023 ISBN978-0-6459672-1-0) a memoir (Excavating the Unconscious 2024 ISBN 978-1-7635377-0-5.) and the 3 photo books above.
An earlier publication of my art work is at http://onehandbasketweaving.blogspot.com/
My professional web site is http://ziji.life
This site is part of a larger digital footprint that includes my dedicated therapy website, "ziji.life". The strategic separation of my therapeutic practice from the art is a deliberate approach to managing a multidisciplinary professional identity. The site is a digital manifestation of a professional and personal synthesis I have developed over 30 years. It embodies my understanding of the human psyche, translated into visual and poetic forms. Perhaps it will offer the reader a unique window into the heart-scape that I explore artistically and clinically.
A background in clinical psychology, trauma and couple therapy, has shaped my art. The work here is not merely an aesthetic expression but also a deeply informed exploration of the landscape of spirit, emotion, attachment, trauma and healing. This connection transforms the work from an art portfolio into a thematic extension of my life's work.
I believe it holds particular significance for those interested in the intersection of art, psychology, trauma recovery, and personal growth. My personal journey, from childhood trauma to a vocation in psychotherapy and art is represented here.
I believe my art is a testament to the resilience and the transformative power of engaging with one's inner landscape. The work might be a resource not just for art appreciation, but potentially for contemplation on themes of well-being, self-discovery, and the therapeutic potential of creative expression. I advocate art as a means of processing and understanding complex experiences.
